Abstract

A share in East London Water Works, engraved on parchment and filled in by hand in some sections. There is a decorative sidepiece on the left with a red hexagonal embossed revenue stamp adhered to the document in the middle of the sidepiece. The headpiece includes the decorative title of the company with a ribbon of text. There is another decorative sidepiece on the left edge, which has been cut for security purposes. At the bottom of the main text the signature of the chief clerk is visible. A note has been written on the verso two years after the form was filled out, confirming the full amount of installments have been paid.

Description

Part Transcription: "No. [blank]. East London Water Works; £60,000. raised in shares of £100. each. These are to certify that [blank] of [blank] is a proprietor of and entitled to one share, being No. [blank]. ... Given under the common seal of the said company at [blank]. This [blank] day of [blank]. A memorial of every sale or transfer of this share must be entered with the chief clerk of the company."
